Slow Food Calgary, in partnership with Grow Calgary and with support from other organizations, is once again going to be an exhibitor at the Calgary Stampede's 'Aggie Days'; from April 5th-9th! We are looking for you to help out at our booth!
We are excited to have the opportunity to engage thousands of children and families and to give them some insight into the important sectors of our food system which are more oriented towards agro-ecology, sustainability, locality and social justice.
Last year, almost 5000 excited kids left our booth with little pots of seeded soil and a basic understanding of what is required to grow plants for 'good, clean and fair' food. For all the work that went into organizing our booth and display activities, the delight of those kids at picking their own seed and carefully pushing it down into the soil and knowing that it would soon grow, made all of the effort more than worthwhile.
If you have a passion for local food grown in a 'good, clean and fair'; fashion and are excited to share your knowledge and excitement with primary school students and young families, we would love to have you fill one or more of our volunteer shifts and be a part of making this year's booth another great success.
Shifts are 4 hours long. Two shifts each day (9:00 AM-12:30 PM; 11:30-3:00 PM) plus one early Sat AM shift (7:00-10:00 AM) for special needs children.
Free parking and lunch are provided. Fun is guaranteed!
Email info@slowfoodcalgary.ca to sign up. Make sure you provide us with a contact number and give us your t-shirt size, as every volunteer will receive a t-shirt to wear at Aggie Days. We’ll be meeting in late March to train all volunteers in the programming we have planned.
Making positive change happen in our food system is an undertaking that will play out over generations. We believe that the best way to make this change happen is to teach the next generation about GOOD, CLEAN AND FAIR Food for Everyone, Everywhere.
