Calgary Seedy Saturday 2008

Saturday March 15, 2008
10 am to 3 pm
Montgomery Community Hall (#5003, 16 Ave NW)

Local gardeners, farmers, seed savers, native plant collectors and agricultural conservationists will gather to buy, sell and/or trade seeds and to exchange seeds and gardening expertise. This event is not for the hard-core gardener alone. There will be music, refreshments and a kids corner.

Seedy Saturdays are now a cross-Canada occurrence, related in concept and intention not administration; they are all independently run. Calgary and Edmonton work together to keep the dates of their events close together so that valued seed vendors like Jim Turnier of Saskatchewan, can attend both without too much traveling.

Local gardeners and heritage food enthusiasts throughout Canada have become reliant on these near-spring Saturdays to source their annual seed supplies, particularly of heritage seeds.

Calgary’s Seedy Saturday, initiated by Bryer Manwell four years ago and now run by Lindsay Meads , is billed as a celebration and sharing of open-pollinated seeds and gardening know-how – “saving our past for our future”.Attendance is expected to exceed 450 people, which is the number of folks who attended last year’s event.

Admission is $2.00 – Calgary Dollars are accepted.
